Welcome-Belong-Thrive Coffee Morning for Multilingual Families

A big thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our Welcome-Belong-Thrive coffee mornings on 26th November and 22nd January. It was great to meet you!

Our first two meetings

In the first meeting, we talked about how our children understand and use two languages – and what a fabulous skill this is.

In the second meeting, we talked about how our children can use their first languages to help them learn to read in a new language, like English.

Here are some websites which parents and carers can use to help their children to enjoy all their languages and to learn English quickly:

Mama Lisa – nursery rhymes in English and in lots of different languages

Unite for Literacy – stories in English and in lots of different languages.

Our next meetings

Our next Welcome-Belong-Thrive coffee mornings are open to all parents and carers who are bringing up multilingual children.

Please save these dates in your diary:

  • Thursday 26th Feb 2026 09:00 – 10:30
  • Thursday 12th March 2026 09:00 – 10:30

We’ll be recording some stories, poems and songs in first languages, like these. We’ll also be talking about ways to communicate with nursery.

More details will follow nearer the time. There will be a ‘sign up’ sheet so we know how many parents and carers are coming and which languages are spoken.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to seeing you at our next Welcome-Belong-Thrive coffee mornings – everyone is welcome!

Best wishes,

Catherine & the Better Bilingual Team,

Sam and Laura from Redcliffe Nursery School
