Seagulls Newsletter - Term 6
Dear Parents and Carers,
I can’t believe that we’re coming to the end of the year. It has been such a pleasure to see the children flourish and become so confident, making the most of what we have to offer. It really is a privilege to be working with your children and being a part of supporting them to grow and develop into the wonderful young people they are. We thank you for choosing Redcliffe Nursery School and placing your trust in us.
To all of the children moving on to Primary School, we wish you all the best. We hope that your time here has been full of play, joy and learning. We hope that you will continue to be confident to explore and curious about the world around you. We know that we will miss you.
To all of the children returning to us in September, we hope you have a lovely summer. We look forward to seeing again.

Celebration event:
Thank you to everyone who attended the end of year celebration event on Wednesday. It was lovely to see so many of our families come together. Special thank you to Rubba for the drumming, Cat for the face painting and Andy for the story!

Summer term is a special time to be in Seagulls... there are magical little moments in our days when the adults will peer across at each other with a knowing look and a proud smile. They excitedly whisper things to one another such as “did you see the incredible block play outside?!” ... “I can’t believe how independent they are now!” ... “Look at how well they are playing together!” ... “Do you remember when they started? They barely said a word and now they talk to so many people!”
It is a busy term for the adults, arranging transition visits, sharing our knowledge of each individual child with new teachers, writing end of year reports, organising trips, finding ways to keep cool in the sun, as well as ensuring there are new possibilities and challenges for the children within their play! We’ve also been working closely with the Blackbirds Team, planning the transition process for the children who will be moving to Seagulls from Blackbirds in September. Though the term is a busy one, it’s also a time for gratitude; to celebrate the wonderful children in our care, reflect on lessons and successes of the year, and lose ourselves in the joy of play!
Discover The children have loved exploring water flow outdoors, using colanders, jugs and pieces of guttering to investigate how water moves and changes direction. The sunshine has brought lots of joy too, and many children have enjoyed relaxing with books on our new large bean bags, choosing quiet moments to read, chat and unwind together.
Belong Block play has continued to be a strong interest. The children have been using the blocks to create all sorts of imaginative structures, often representing things that matter to them. Recently, they have also been using blocks featuring photographs of the schools they will be going to, helping them to make connections with their upcoming transitions. We’ve seen tall towers, cosy houses and even bridges carefully designed to help them cross the “lava” during their pretend play. Their imaginative play has been rich and expressive, with children confidently taking on roles, creating stories and working together to bring their ideas to life.
Creating and making has also been very popular. The children have enjoyed using templates to make masks of their favourite superheroes, adding their own colours and creative touches. They have also been busy threading beads to make necklaces and bracelets, which has been a lovely way to support their fine-motor development and hand-eye coordination. Their concentration and pride in their finished pieces.
Music has brought a joyful sense of wellbeing to the room. The children have loved dancing, singing and moving together, sharing smiles and laughter as they join in with rhythms, actions and favourite songs. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they express themselves through music.
Two groups have also taken part in a pilot to promote The Big Brush Club, giving children the opportunity to practise brushing their teeth with adult modelling and support. The children have shown great enthusiasm, and it has been a lovely way to encourage healthy habits and independence.
Play Sensory play has also been very popular, with children enjoying activities using paint, water, playdough, coloured sand and gloop. These experiences have supported their creativity and exploration, while also providing a calming and relaxing sensory experience as they engage with different textures.
Dates for your Diary:
- We will finish for the Summer break on Tuesday 21st July, returning on Thursday 10th September after completing our home visits. Nursery will be closed to all children during this time.
