Celebration event:

Thank you to everyone who attended the end of year celebration event on Wednesday.  It was lovely to see so many of our families come together.  Special thank you to Rubba for the drumming, Cat for the face painting and Andy for the story!

From the Blackbirds Team  We feel that our Blackbirds children have really made progress with their personal, social and emotional development this year; they have developed a real sense of belonging at nursery. It is wonderful to watch our Blackbirds children arriving, approaching their key person happily and interacting with their peers. Each key-person has developed in-depth knowledge of their key-group over the year, with support and input from parents. This information will be passed on to each child’s new key person.  

Discover We have been trying to create opportunities for children to use their whole bodies and make large movements to create art. This term, the children loved stomping on paint covered in bubble wrap, to create large-scale paint splodges. Bringing natural materials, such as flowers, into the room has also inspired some of our budding artists to make watercolour paintings.        

We have been thinking about mathematics and how our everyday practices, such as cutting fruit at snack time, are rich opportunities for teaching maths concepts; counting out segments of fruit, talking about the shape and size of the fruit, and exploring concepts such as half and whole. The children are given toast on Monday and Thursday snack time. They have enjoyed independently spreading butter onto their toast and cutting their slice into smaller pieces. The children have also been exploring shape, through-scale construction and making pictures with tangrams.  

Thank you for your support during the hot weather. We have been keeping cool with the children by exploring ice, playing with water and reading stories in the shade of the trees. Helen made a huge ice block for the children to explore and Antonia set up some ice cube painting. When the children have not been at nursery due to the heat, staff have been busy making improvements to the environment.  

We would like to wish you all a very happy summer holiday. It has been wonderful looking after your children in Blackbirds this year.  

Reminders:

I would like to give you some important information reminders

• Please ensure you bring a bag in with multiple spare changes of clothes, including socks.  As the weather improves, please provide a sunhat and sun cream for your child.
• Please provide water in your child’s water bottle – no squash
• Mobile phones are not to be used once you have gone through reception into the Seagulls or Blackbirds rooms.
• Please can you fold down your buggies or take them away if possible. We need to keep the main entrance walkway clear at all times as this is a fire exit.
• Parking - please note that the car park is for the residents and a tow scheme is in place. We recommend using the on road pay and display bays for free 30 minutes to drop off and collect your children.
• Please check Facebook, Instagram and the website regularly. We are aiming to post photos (non-identifiable) of what the children have been enjoying each week.

Dates for your Diary:

• We will finish for the Summer break on Tuesday 21^st July, Returning on Thursday 10^th September. Nursery will be closed to all children during this time.
