Forest Experience

“ Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”

 Carlin, cited in Woolton(2006)

At Redcliffe we believe that the forest experience is an inspirational process that offers children, young people and adults, regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self esteem through hands on learning experiences in a local woodland environment.

We believe that the experience gives us the opportunity to encourage exploration, experimentation, observation, problem solving, prediction, critical thinking, decision making and discussion.  The children are able to assess and take risks in a challenging and adventurous environment.

There is potential to overcome fears and anxieties through challenge and adventure, to build relationships in a relaxed atmosphere, to develop knowledge and understanding through real multi-sensory experiences and to maximise the opportunity of unfamiliar environments to develop physical skills.

All children visit the forest on a weekly basis, this ensures that there is an opportunity to build confidence and self esteem, which leads to development and progression, through a variety of experiences which are based on the children's individual interests and abilities.  parents/carers are always welcome to join us and we are always on the lookout for volunteers to support these forest visits.  Please contact us if this is something you would like to find out more about.

Our overall objectives are to provide children with:

·        Awe inspiring matter
